Carol: Yes, it is quite a lonely place, although I get the impression it's owned by elderly people. In a strange sort of way it's rather beautiful.

Carol: This barn is just set back off a lay-by (rest stop) A couple of years ago I picked up a lady who I thought had broken down. It's a particularly fast part of the road. She was fidgeting a lot in the back of the car and my daughter was getting a little frightened. So, I asked her to do up her seat belt. To cut a long story short, she then tried to jump out of the car as I was moving. Had it not been for the seat belt she certainly would have been injured, if not killed. As it happened I had time to slow down the car before she hit the floor. By this time I had managed to pull towards this lay-by and she hit a grass verge. Scary stuff, especially as it's in the middle of nowhere and she got up and started blankly wandering down the road. Eventually an ambulance turned up, but she jumped out of the back of that too and the Police had to run and get her. It was quite a surreal situation. My daughter and I were left in this lay-by in the silence of an empty road wondering, did that really happen.
The Police called me hours later to ask if I was OK (nice of them to remember me, I had to be by that stage) and to tell me that the lady was OK she only had minor injuries and would be spending some time on the psychiatric unit.
